Billy Mamaril ready to play enforcer role for Ginebra vs physical Rain or Shine

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters have a reputation for being the most physical team in the PBA, and other squads have taken note.

“It’s no secret and that’s their style of play,” Barangay Ginebra San Miguel center Billy Mamaril told InterAKTV in an exclusive interview. The Gin Kings begin a best-of-three playoff series against the Elasto Painters Wednesday.

“They haven’t been as physical against us the first two games we’ve met.”

That could change when the playoffs roll around, and Mamaril says he’s ready to play enforcer — a role his father Romulo Mamaril also played for Ginebra in the 1980s.

The younger Mamaril has seen how Rain or Shine’s physicality has frustrated rookies from other teams, such as Alaska’s Calvin Abueva and Meralco’s Cliff Hodge. The Ginebra slotman said he won’t let it happen to the Gin Kings’ youngsters.

“I will be the first one to come to defend our rookies if that thing happened to us,” said Mamaril, who added that it’s the Elasto Painters’ lethal offensive attack, and not their physicality, that ought to be a concern for Ginebra.

“I play physical as well, so I’m used to the physical game. But if there are several things scary about Rain or Shine, it’s their execution and pick and roll game.”

Ako as a fan of BGSM, I didnt expect too much from you manalo, matalo Ginebra parin ako but in every game I want to see the Never Say Die attitude!
