Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa OK to play minor role in finals versus Alaska

If the last minute of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s clinching win over Talk ‘N Text in the Commissioner’s Cup semifinals is any indication, superstar guard Mark Caguioa is ready to accept his new role with the squad.

Still recovering from a knee injury, Caguioa said he doesn’t mind playing limited minutes, as he did on Sunday when he made a cameo appearance late in the Gin Kings victory.

“These guys brought me here to the championship so sana naman makatulong rin ako sa kanila,” Caguioa told InterAKTV. “I’m not here to score 20-plus points. I don’t really care. I just want to win.”

Caguioa’s injury has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Ginebra, as several players such Kerby Raymundo, Chris Ellis, LA Tenorio, Jayjay Helterbrand, and Mac Baracael have stepped up their games.

“If somebody got injured then somebody will step up as in the case of Jayjay,” said Caguioa. “Before kasi kulang yung minutes niya because pareho kami ng position na nilalaro, but he started to pick up here in the playoffs.”
