FOR someone who's so used to seeing LA Tenorio run the show at Alaska, seeing him on an opposing uniform gave Luigi Trillo a weird feeling.
“It’s mixed feelings,” Trillo said after the Aces beat Barangay Ginebra, 87-69, on Sunday night in Tenorio's first game against his former team since the biggest trade of the offseason that saw the former Ateneo star point guard swap places with JVee Casio.
“In fact, when I was writing on the board (before the game) I called him, `LA’. You know, I always write Tenorio on the board. I know LA has so many memories with Alaska but it stops (there) because I respect him as a person and you have to look after what he wants.”
The trade initially looked one-sided in favor of Ginebra, but judging from the two teams' start to the season it is Alaska which appeared to have made the better transition.
While the Aces have won four straight games after a 0-2 start, Tenorio and the Kings have gone the opposite way, having now lost four in a row after opening the season with back-to-back victories.
Tenorio also had a pedestrian game against his former team, finishing with 10 points on 3-of-8 shooting to go with two rebounds, an assist, and steal in 30 minutes of play.
Trillo, however, has no doubt Tenorio will make Ginebra a better team. It may not be now, but sometime soon.
“LA will help Ginebra. It may not be now, but LA is a competitor,” said the Alaska coach. “Once LA gets in the groove, when the right combination comes in, he will help Ginebra.
“It can be now, it can be in the semis, it can be in the finals. It’s gonna happen. I have no doubt he (LA) will help Ginebra.”
