Kings import falling way short of expectations
Kings import falling way short of expectations

SHAPE UP or ship out.
If Chris Alexander fails to impress Barangay Ginebra’s coaching staff in the next few days, he would most likely be the first import in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup to be sent home.
Kings head coach Siot Tanquingcen told the BusinessMirror on Wednesday that his import is not in top shape after being sidelined for nine months.
“Siyempre, import conference ito. Talagang aasahan mo sila,” said Tanquingcen, whose wards are 0-3 in preseason tune-up games with Alexander.
“Kinausap ko na siya and we set our expectations. The coming conference will be a short one at matalo ka lang ng tatlong sunod, tagilid ka na,” he added.
Alexander was the team’s import when they won their last PBA title in the 2008-09 Fiesta Cup against Air21 in a classic best-of-seven championship series that went the full route.
Unfortunately, a different Alexander arrived.
“Wala sa dati,” said Tanquingcen. “Hindi pa kami satisfied sa ipinapakita niya, but we will give him a chance. It will be day to day for him.”
The Kings will plunge into action in the midseason conference on February 12 against Petron Blaze at the Araneta Coliseum.
Tanquingcen could not guarantee if Alexander will suit up for Ginebra against the Nick Fazekas-led Boosters.
“We’ll see if he gets his back game,” said Tanquingcen. “Pero may Plan B naman kami in case things don’t work out.”
The Kings mentor also said new additions Kerby Raymundo and Dylan Ababou—acquired through a three-team trade with B-meg and Barako Bull—are coming along but he does not expect them to fit in immediately.
Returnee Rudy Hatfield is also getting there but “timing is not there yet,” according to Tanquingcen.
“Nasa kondisyon naman palagi si Rudy. Kulang na lang ’yung timing but he’ll get there even before the tournament starts,” he said.
Meanwhile, Powerade signed Gary David to a P15-million three-year extension.
David was the Best Player of the Conference of the recently concluded Philippine Cup but the Tigers fell short against Talk ’N Text in the finals that ended in five games.
Meanwhile, there will be five out-of-town games in the eliminations and two games in Dubai on February 23 featuring Rain or Shine opposite Barako and Ginebra against Rain or Shine.
Provincial games lined up are Ginebra-Alaska on February 18 in Lucena City; B-meg-Air21 on March 3 in Tacloban City, Petron-Powerade on March 10 in Legazpi City; Meralco-Barako Bull on March 17 in Tubod, Lanao del Norte; and Talk ’N Text-Rain or Shine on March 24 in Lapu-Lapu City.

This is what I was thinking before if he's still in proper condition to play for the kings. Thus, also the reason why I favor Siot's decision to thoroughly select from their previous shortlist. Hope Mr. Toothpick can catch up and be back in form before we face our first opponent. In short, Alexander d great must step up.

Gusto nyang maglaro sa Ginebra then prove them wrong now na wala sya sa condition. I know he can surpassed all this. Mabubuhat nya ang team but of course with the help of the locals.

Re: Kings import falling way short of expectations

Dun sya ginaganahan at nagpapasikat. Tsaka i'm sure magpapakita yan sa totoong game na kasi paninindigan niya yung mga sinabi niya sa letter niya sa fb.
