It’s the second time in half a year that the SMC enlisted a marquee coach/consultant outside the SMC coaching pool. The first one, being coach Tim Cone.

After more than a decade of rotating coaches (Uichico, Caidic, Tanquingcen , Dela Cruz, Ravanes, etc.) among SMC teams, SMC now feels they have to be agressive in thecoaching market. This hire is definitely brought about by 2 things. One, the departure of Uichico (to MERALCO at that) and speaking of… two, SMC is on a hard and somewhat personal battle with MVP group. They need to be fully loaded both on the court and in the sidelines to meet the challenge. Or in this case, to accomplish a revenge (TnT eliminated Petron recently).

I say, this is a good hire. I am a fan of Chua, and still a fan of Ginebra. Alfrancis Chua has that fire & character that Ginebra needs now. Great job SMC! Not to mention, this will only push current coach Siot Tanquingcen to steer this team well, or else.

But my immediate and important question is… If team consultant Al Francis Chua is watching inside the arena and BGK about to win, will he remove his pony tail?
