Is Slaughter Ginebra's missing link?

MANILA – Gregory Slaughter could be Ginebra’s missing link.

This is how Rain or Shine ElastoPainters big men assessed the added angst the Cebuano behemoth has given the crowd-favorite squad.

“Mas naging mabagsik ang gitna nila. Biro mo may 7-footer sa gitna, paano ka sasalaksak ng basta-basta,” said Rain or Shine scrappy guard Ryan Arana.

Though he made Slaughter perspire with his pesky defense during their tune-up Wednesday, undersized forward Larry Rodriguez complained of body pains after their 90-95 loss to Ginebra.

“Ambigat bantayan ni Slaughter. Hindi ako nakakahinga pag binobomba na ko sa ilalim,” said the Tondo dribbler. “Para kang bumabangga sa poste!”

Still, Rodriguez claimed the 2013 PBA Rookie Draft top overall pick still needs maturity in his game.

“Medyo kulang pa sa angas. Pero matututo yan,” said Rodriguez, who even rated Petron’s incoming sophomore JuneMar Fajardo as slightly better than the Ginebra rookie.

“Mas may galaw at mas may bangga pa si JuneMar. Pero ilang buwan lang, pagnaturuan ng gulang yan… titibay rin yan,” he added.

For Rain or Shine star guard Paul Lee, Slaughter isn’t just the problem to solve at Ginebra’s frontline.

“Ang mahirap kasi pag pinasok nila ng kasabay ni Slaughter yung Jay-R Reyes o Japeth Aguilar… Wala na. Kanila na ang rebound,” Lee said.

Meanwhile, Slaughter is happy that his teammates gave him a good first game with a victory.

“I am happy to be finally getting together out there with the guys… and I am happy we got the win too,” said the soft-spoken giant.

“Adjustment? Just a bit. I haven’t had much time with them… But things have been running pretty smoothly… Things will get better with much time,” he said.

Asked if he is Ginebra’s JuneMar Fajardo, Slaughter replied with conviction: “I am Ginebra’s Gregory Slaughter!”

The former Ateneo Blue Eagle revealed having goosebumps before the tune-up as a sizeable crowd trooped to the Ronac gym to see him and Ginebra play.

“Felt good, excited and a little nervous. This is a tune-up game, but it really has a taste of what’s coming,” he revealed.

“The fans were very welcoming. They’re very supportive. My teammates had my back so I wasn’t really that nervous,” he said.

Noon pa man team to beat na ang Ginebra at sa pagdating nga mga higanteng players tulad nila Reyes, & Slaughter mas masasabi ko ng malaki na ang chance namen makapasok ng finals..

Mas gumaan nga ang trabaho nyan ni GS dahil may katuwang sha na ibang biggies tulad nila Reyes & Japeth na pwedeng magslide sa #4 spot.

To GS, pakita mo sa mga kritiko mo na hindi lang tangkad at lapad meron ka.. mag extra work ka sa practice at sa gym para mailabas mo pa yung natatago mong potential.. goodluck!
