Slaughter on his draft preference: 'If I end up in Ginebra, I can’t ask for anything more'
Prospective No. 1 pick overall Greg Slaughter posted a photo with Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa on his Instagram account after dropping by the Kings' practice on Friday.
HOURS after dropping by Barangay Ginebra's practice on Friday, Greg Slaughter made no effort to hide where he wants to end up in the PBA rookie draft on November 3.
“If I end up in Ginebra, I can’t ask for anything more than that,” said the Cebuano seven-footer, the prospective No. 1 pick in the rookie draft where the Gin Kings happen to own the top selection overall.
The former Ateneo and University of Visayas star said he has felt the love from Ginebra's army of fans, long before the Kings won the No. 1 draft pick in a lottery through a first-round selection they previously gained in a trade with Air21.
“They have the best fans, they have already showed their support even on social media. Hopefully, everything works out,” said Slaughter.
No wonder the big man paid a visit to Ginebra's practice just hours after planing in from the US, even posting a photo with Kings superstar Mark Caguioa on his Instagram account.
But he insisted that nothing is final yet with regards to his destination in the coming PBA draft.
“Nothing is set in stone already because you don’t know what will happen. I’m just preparing myself,” said Slaughter.
Slaughter is one of three big men expected to be the top choices in the PBA draft, with Ian Sangalang of San Sebastian and Raymund Almazan of Letran also being tagged as possible candidates.
“I’m actually jetlagged and pretty tired but I really got a good workout with my buddy so I just try to get ready,” said Slaughter.
Slaughter, who won two championships with Ateneo in the UAAP, is also making an effort to become stronger physically in preparation for the highly physical game in the pro ranks.
“Everyone is pretty big in the PBA. They just play hard. I’m still working on that, see where I will end up, and take it from there,” said Slaughter.
