Mark Caguioa hoping Alfrancis Chua will have a change of heart

 

MANILA -- Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa still believes their beleaguered mentor Alfrancis Chua will reconsider his decision to leave the team.

After being at the helm for only one conference, Chua announced his resignation in front of his players during their first day of practice Monday morning at the Xavier Gym.

Chua’s move shocked most of the team’s followers who expressed their disbelief via social media websites.

A known motivator, Chua is being credited for leading the team to a Finals stint last Commissioner’s Cup where they were swept by the Alaska Aces.

Caguioa said his team’s morale has been low since Chua informed the players of his decision to end his coaching tenure after being at the helm for only one conference.

Former assistant coach Allan Caidic ran the team’s practice session Tuesday together with coaching transferees Ato Agustin, George Gallent and Boyzie Zamar. Still part of the coaching staff are Freddie Abuda and Art Dela Cruz.

Caidic, who now acts as full-time assistant to De La Salle’s head coach Juno Sauler, denied insinuations he is being considered as Chua’s replacement.

Chua was reportedly set to meet San Miguel Corporation President Ramon Ang today but sources claim Chua will take it as an opportunity to bid goodbye to team’s chief backer.

“Masakit man sa kaniya, pero desidido na daw talaga. Wala nang atrasan,” said the source.

“Pinigilan din siya ni boss Noli (Eala) at boss Robert (Non) pero wala talaga. Nagpaalam naman muna ng maayos si coach sa dalawa bago niya kausapin yung mga players,” said the source.
