GAME ONE VICTORY A BIG BOOST TO GINEBRA’S CONFIDENCE, SAYS BARACAEL

MANILA – Barangay Ginebra’s Marnel Baracael knows that they are privileged to have a 1-0 advantage in their semifinals showdown with the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters.

According to the sophomore forward, the importance of it lies in having added confidence going into the next game.

“Importante kasi pag ikaw yung nakastart ng maganda, yung confidence mo para sa next game mas mataas,” was how Baracael put it in an exclusive interview with Solar Sports Desk.

Baracael played a key role in Ginebra’s 104-81 thumping of the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters Friday night at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

He scored nine of his 12 points in the opening quarter as Ginebra pulled away with an early 18-point lead. Baracael and import Vernon Macklin combined for 16 points in the first frame that was a point more than the output of the entire Talk ‘N Text squad.

“Yung binibigay na opportunity sakin ni coach, yun ung nagiging motivation ko para gumanda yung laro ko,” he expressed.

“Syempre, kapag role player ka kelangan every game ready ka,” said the sixth overall pick of the 2011 draft class.

Baracael has been stepping-up for his team eversince superstar guard Mark Caguioa went down with a knee injury.

“Dahil rin siguro sa pagkakainjure ng mga player namin, hindi nila alam kung sino sa amin ang puputok,” shared Baracael, who has been averaging 18.0 points and 3.3 rebounds in his team’s last six games.

Asked if the Barangay Ginebra faithful can expect the same showing from him and his teammates as the playoffs progress, he said, “Kung ipagpapatuloy namin yung nilalaro namin, malaki yung chance na magtuluy-tuloy nato.”

Ginebra will try to go 2-0 when they face the Tropang Texters tonight at 6:15 PM at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
