With their teams booking seats in the semifinals of the Commissioner’s Cup, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel star guard LA Tenorio and Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva kept their bids strong for the Best Player of the Conference award.
Tenorio, who has stepped up in the place of injured Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa, paced the league in average statistical points in the eliminations at 28.6.
Abueva is hot on his trail at 28.2 average SPs.
Rounding out the top five are GlobalPort’s Gary David, Air 21′s KG Canaleta, and Rain or Shine’s Paul Lee. But all three teams have been eliminated from the playoffs, leaving Tenorio and Abueva the favorites for the award.
Meanwhile, Eric Dawson of Meralco led the league in average SPs at the end of the elimination round with 54.8. Running second is Alaska’s Robert Dozier, who averaged 48 SPs.
At third place is Vernon Macklin with 47.5 SPs, whose campaign for the award is expected to be boosted by the Gin Kings’ entry into the semifinal round.
