GINEBRA BEATS RAIN OR SHINE, BOOKS SEMIS DATE WITH TALK 'N TEXT

MANILA - In a tightly fought contest, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel emerged victorious over the higher seeded Rain or Shine Elastopainters, 81-79 at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum to book the third semifinals ticket of the 2013 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

Ranked No. 7 after the elimination round, Ginebra knocked off their opponents twice in the quarters to join the
Alaska Aces and the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters in the final four.

Vernon Macklin's 24 points led Ginebra, Chris Ellis and Kerby Raymundo each had 13, while Mac Baracael added 10 markers for the Alfrancis Chua-coached squad.

"Everybody wants to win. I give it to my players," said the winning coach after the game. "Nobody expected us to win."

With Ginebra up by 5, Paul Lee hit a three-pointer to narrow the lead 70-68, 6:45 left.

Back-to-back hits from Bruno Sundov from beyond the arc knotted the count at 74 with under five minutes left in the game.

Macklin would answer back with a reverse layup to restore order for Ginebra and give his team a slim 76-74 edge.

A three-pointer from Jeff Chan gave the ElastoPainters the lead, 77-76, 3:19 remaining. A running jumper from Paul Lee pushed the advantahe of RoS to three after Ginebra failed to convert on the other end.

After a split from Chris Ellis, the two teams traded several misses until Macklin scored a putback off Kerby

Raymundo's miss that tied the game at 79-all with just a little under one minute left in the game.

Paul Lee's miss allowed Ginebra to set up a play that saw Mac Baracael misfire a three-point attempt. Raymundo would once again miss but Macklin was fouled and the import converted his two charities from the stripe, 81-79, 11.1 left on the clock.

Chan's layup attempt was blocked by Macklin, 6.2 remaining but the ball went back to Rain or Shine. The ElastoPainters though muffed several attempts that allowed Ginebra to come away with the victory.

Chris Tiu paced Rain or Shine with 15 points.
