GINEBRA BEATS ROS ANEW, GAINS FINAL 4 SPOT

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, leaning on Vernon Macklin’s late-game heroics on both ends of the floor, tripped Rain or Shine Monday, 81-79, and advanced to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Kings thus scored back-to-back wins to oust the No. 2 seed Elasto Painters.

Macklin, who was then 0-for-2 from the stripe, calmly sank two free throws off a Bruno Sundov foul to break the game’s last deadlock and score the marginal baskets with 11.1 seconds remaining. In the ensuing play, Macklin blocked the shot of a driving Jeff Chan to keep the Kings on top, time down to 6.2 seconds.

The Elasto Painters had one last chance to at least send the game into overtime, but Paul Lee and Chan bungled their tries to hand Ginebra the win.

The seventh-seed Kings now face Talk n Text in the Final 4.

Macklin finished with 24 points and 16 rebounds to lead Ginebra.

Chris Tiu paced ROS with 15 points while the foul-saddled Sundov was held to 12 points and six rebounds.
