VIDEO: Caguioa fears injury will keep him out of action for far too long
THE way he plays, Barangay Ginebra star Mark Caguioa has always been seen as a fearless player.
But 'The Spark' does fear one thing.
Out of commission due to a Grade 1 MCL sprain on his left knee, the reigning league MVP fears he may not get back in time to help Ginebra's title aspirations in the PBA Commissioner's Cup.
“Yes, I am afraid. I am afraid that this injury gets worse and I’ll miss so many games,,” said Caguioa, reduced to mere spectator on the bench during the Kings’ 96-89 win over the Barako Bull Energy Cola Sunday night.
“I am afraid na (the injury) isn't gonna heal in one or two weeks. Baka humaba, sana huwag ganun ang mangyari. Dun ako natatakot.
“I just want to be there in the playoff. I want to try and go back and play.”
Here's a video of Caguioa joining the celebration in the Ginebra dugout after the win.

At the same time, Caguioa is eager to sustain his good form, which that made him the top contender for the Best Player of the Conference award after averaging 22.78 points, 4.67 rebounds, and 3.44 assists in the Kings' first nine games.
“I can’t really do anything about it (condition). All you have to do is rest, immobilize it, and not do anything,” said the charismatic Ginebra star. “Pero sandali lang naman mabawi yun eh, kaya ko naman agad ibalik yun.”
Ginebra import Vernon Macklin admits an injured Caguioa is a big loss to the team especially with the Kings slowly regaining their winning touch by chalking up four straight wins after starting the conference at 1-5.
“Obviously, losing Mark is pretty tough for us,” Macklin said. “We just gotta step up our game now.”
But 'The Spark’ readily tells the rest of the Kings to just focus and play.
“I am not challenging anyone. They already know that, my teammates are professionals, they will just give it their 100 percent like in this game (against Barako),” he said.
“I don’t want to challenge my teammates (to step up). It will just pressure them,” bared Caguioa, while revealing at the same time how grateful he is to point guard LA Tenorio for putting the team together especially with him on the injured list.
The reigning league MVP is strapped with an immobilizer on his left knee for a full week to protect it from unnecessary movements that could aggravate his sprained left MCL.
“Sprained MCL yung kay Mark, hindi strained. Mas malala actually yung sprained. So he will need more rest,” said a Ginebra source, who revealed Caguioa will be out for at least two weeks.
