Humble Vernon Macklin promises to keep providing energy for Ginebra

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel finally won its first Commissioner’s Cup game, with the Gin Kings drawing much energy from new import Vernon Macklin.

The former Detroit Pistons draftee, in just his second appearance for the team, posted 21 points and 14 rebounds. After the game, he promised more of the same for Ginebra fans.

“They can expect energy out there from me night after night,” he said.

Macklin knows the expectations of playing for the league’s most popular team, and he humbly admitted that he has limitations as a player.

“I’m not Dwight Howard or Blake Griffin. I’m an import, but I’m just human,” he said.

But he knows that a key part to being successful is building a strong rapport with his local teammates, something he is already working on.

“I want to get my teammates more involved. I love passing the ball.”

He said he was excited when he first learned that he will be joining the Gin Kings after a warm welcome by the team’s fans.

“It’s a great feeling to be playing out there,” said Macklin. “When I first learned that I will be playing for Barangay Ginebra, I was so excited. I also love the fact that a lot of people have been following me on Twitter.”
