Ginebra to bring in NBA D-League veteran Vernon Macklin as import replacement

Will Herbert Hill soon be Nothing Hill?

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel is set to fly in Vernon Macklin, a 6-foot-10 standout from the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA D-League, as a potential replacement for the unimpressive Hill.

Sheryl Reyes, who helped negotiate Macklin’s deal with Ginebra, said the Gin Kings are about to buy out the player’s D-League contract.

Hill scored 17 points in his first game with the Gin Kings, but missed his first 10 shots from the field and committed six turnovers.

The Gin Kings had inquired about the possibility of tapping DJ Mbenga, but the former Los Angeles Lakers bench player was not immediately available.

“DJ Mbenga won’t make it this week for Ginebra, so they will be bringing Vernon Macklin,” wrote Reyes in a text message to InterAKTV.

Ginebra coach Alfrancis Chua said that Hill will still be suiting up for the team. The Gin Kings will take on the GlobalPort Batang Pier on Friday in what could be Hill’s farewell.
