BRGY. Ginebra import Herbert Hill can heave a sigh of relief - for now.

A top official of San Miguel Corporation informed Spin.ph that negotiations with a possible replacement for Hill, former German national cager Tim Ohlbrecht, bogged down on Tuesday afternoon.

The sweet-shooting 6-11 slotman turned down the offer from Ginebra and instead chose to focus on his career in the NBA D-League, where he plays for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

“Mukhang gusto talaga ni Ohlbrecht na mag NBA kaya ayaw niyang lumayo run,” said the SMC official who refused to be named.

The source even bared that Ginebra tried contacting the agents of Ohlbrecht several times, but the 24-year old cager was adamant to stay in the US to be close in case a stint in the NBA beckons.

With Ohlbrecht scratched from the list, the choice for Hill's possible replacement is now down to two.

Ginebra is also negotiating with Bakersfield Jam center Brian Butch, but there has been no word yet on whether he is willing to try the international scene anew after stints in China, Germany and Greece.

Another import prospect is Ohlbrecht Vipers teammate Vernon Macklin, who just came from a short stint with the Royal Hali Gaziantep squad in Turkey.

Aside from the Butch and Macklin, Ginebra coach Alfrancis Chua is said to be reviewing a video tape of another NBA D-League center.

The Gin Kings have earlier tried to sign Nigerian center Jerome Jordan, but he was reportedly given a contract as a practice player by the Los Angeles Lakers last week.

Another probable reinforcement, Ike Diogu, will not be available until the third week of March as his Chinese Basketball Association team, Guangdong Southern Tigers, are certain playoff contenders.

Former PBA import Donelle Harvey, said to be also in the radar of Ginebra, is still negotiating with Talk n’ Text, which still holds his playing rights.
