For the last several seasons, Barangay Ginebra and Alaska found it hard to get over the hump and at least make a finals appearance. But now, both are hoping to show vast improvement this coming Commissioner’s Cup.
In the last Philippine Cup, the Aces turned things around as they significantly made noise with their new and improved look.
With the sudden emergence of No. 2 overall pick Calvin Abueva, along with Jvee Casio and old reliables Cyrus Baguio and Sonny Thoss, Alaska shocked everyone with the progress it made as it is back on the map after having a forgettable season last year.
Considering the great run the Aces had in the Philippine Cup, where they made the semifinals, Alaska coach Luigi Trillo has every reason to look forward to another solid campaign in the upcoming import-laden conference.
Alaska will parade Robert Dozier as its import and Trillo, as early as now, is already impressed with what his ward can give his team.
Over at the Ginebra camp, things aren’t exactly sunny the last couple of seasons as it failed to crack the semifinals again last conference.
The Gin Kings can only hope that the changes they made this conference break can help their cause.
A new coach is in tow in Alfrancis Chua, who is now the head mentor, with Siot Tanquingcen sliding down to head assistant.
When it comes to its line-up, the squad acquired Mac Baracael while it shipped Allein Maliksi.
