WITH a new coach to start 2013, Barangay Ginebra players are looking forward with high expectations heading to the mid-season PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
While the second conference is still more than a month away from its February 8 kick-off, veteran playmaker LA Tenorio said he feels Alfrancis Chua's appointment as head coach bodes well for the team's title aspirations.
“He’s really a great motivator. PBL days pa lang marami na siyang championship," said Tenorio of Chua, who has won titles in the PBL but none in the pro league in previous tours of duty with Tanduay and Sta. Lucia.
Tenorio has more or less played the same role during his time as a consultant and assistant coach under former coach Siot Tanquingcen since January last year.
"Siya ang taga-balanse sa team eh, lalo na nung time na down kami at napagtatalo, siya ang nage-encourage sa mga players,” Tenorio told Spin.ph. “Constantly he talks to the players and it’s a big thing for us. Siyempre, we’re still a team that is in search for the right combination."
Fil-Am rookie Chris Ellis, on the other hand, expressed surprise at the coaching change announced at the turn of the year.
“It’s really big news for us. I’ve heard of the rumors before, but now that we have coach Al as the new coach, I think he’ll just do a little tweaking because it is all for the improvement of the team come the second conference,” said the high-leaping Ellis.
