Trade Analysis: Alaska-Barako Bull-Ginebra-Petron-San Mig Coffee Trade
In probably a rare moment in PBA history, all the three San Miguel Corporation-owned ballclubs were involved in one single blockbuster trade. Petron, Ginebra, and San Mig Coffee worked hand-in-hand with Barako Bull and Alaska to consummate a ten-player swap. Here's the recap and my analysis of the trade.
1. Alaska Aces
Alaska sent Gilas Pilipinas standout Mac Baracael to Ginebra while getting fellow ex-Gilas player Aldrech Ramos from San Mig Coffee. With Baracael in the trade rumors due to the existence of a certain Calvin Abueva, "The Beast", as Abueva's fondly called, will now get more playing minutes. Ramos, likely to play more of a back-up stretch forward, will help in contribution from the outside as what Luigi Trillo's own version of the Triangle Offense would suggest.
2. Barako Bull Energy Cola
Barako Bull gets four players in the swap, namely Jonas Villanueva and J.C. Intal (from San Mig Coffee), Allein Maliksi (from Ginebra), and Jojo Duncil (from Petron). While new coach Rajko Toroman failed on landing at least one of his Gilas boys to Barako Bull, he is still able to get young players that will beef up the veteran-loaded Energy Cola club come the Commissioner's Cup. Also, expect some more high-flying action at the brigade with the arrival of Intal and the return of Maliksi. Villanueva and Duncil will also provide more energy.
3. Barangay Ginebra San Miguel
Ginebra only got Mac Baracael in the trade, but that could be enough for new coach Alfrancis Chua. Ginebra is really looking for a solid biggie that will compliment Ginebra's guard-loaded roster. With Mac also becoming a stretch of his own, expect him to be Ginebra's scorer once L.A. Tenorio, Mark Caguioa, and Jayjay Helterbrand get banged up by the opposing defense.
4. Petron Blaze Boosters
While losing Duncil and Alex Mallari, Petron gets one old but still gold guy in Ronald Tubid. Seemingly like aging is not hampering him, Tubid still lights up the floor with his fantastic drives and perimeter shooting. The acquisition of Tubid marks another chapter in the Petronovela as the Boosters are looking to get back into championship
groove.
5. San Mig Coffee Mixers
Mallari, on the other hand, will join former Barako Bull players Leo Najorda and Lester Alvarez at the San Mig Coffee camp. Not getting much playing time at Petron, Mallari, the third overall pick of the draft, could make one big push for the Rookie of the Year plum as he is expected to be the starting shooting guard for the Mixers, who are out to defend their Commissioner's Cup championship starting this February. Najorda and Alvarez will also be good fits to Tim Cone's Triangle game. San Mig Coffee also gets the 2014 first round pick of Petron, and Ray-Ray Parks and Terrence Romeo are among the top prospects!
Big Winners: Barako Bull-Aside from getting four players, BB need more youthfulness, and they got it.
Big Losers: Petron-I respect Tubid's never-say-die game, but trading Alex Mallari, who would have easily team up with Alex Cabagnot to make a deadly backcourt duo, is wrong for me.

Winner ang Barako and SMCM for me.. Mallari will play point with a decent shot from trey and lester alvarez pa.. Barako gain JC and Maliksi na high flyer with a touch from outside. alanganin ako kay Marnel, sorry fans.. sana lang magwork and magkaron siya ng PT..
