ACES DEFEND FIFTH SPOT VERSUS KINGS
Published on November 17, 2012
Things have turned around for both Barangay Ginebra and Alaska Milk from the last time they met, and
this provides different outlook in their rematch.
The Kings are now the ones on the winning track and the Aces on a slump as they clash for the second
time in the PBA Philippine Cup elimination round at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.
Both teams fight to improve to upper echelon of the leader board, presenting a more exciting view to
the 6:30 p.m. match.
Alaska is now at fifth place at 5-5, having lost all its last three games. Ginebra, on the other
hand, is half-game behind at 4-5 after checking a five-game slump with back-to-back wins over
Globalport and Talk n Text.
Coach Luigi Trillo himself feels Ginebra is a very dangerous foe right now.
“If you think about it we’re lucky because Ginebra was not at its best the first time we played
them. Their chemistry was not there. I think it’s there now,” said Trillo.
Calvin Abueva barely missed a third double-double game with 19 points and nine rebounds and Jvee
Casio contributed four triples and a total of 16 markers, leading a balanced Alaska game in their
87-69 rout of Ginebra in their previous tussle.
The Aces would make it five in a row in their next game against the TnT Tropang Texters before
tumbling down with three straight losses to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, the San Mig Coffee
Mixers and the Air21 Express.
They have to stop their skip or they would yield fifth spot to the Kings.
Ginebra is again enjoying high spirits, buoyed up by victories over Globalport and Talk n Text.
“A few days ago, who would have thunk we would get two straight wins,” said Ginebra coach Siot
Tanquingcen.
“It’s the heart and desire of the guys to win. Somehow, our aggression was evident on defense.
We’re patient on offense, and it worked to our advantage,” Tanquingcen also said.
Caguioa thought things have become easier with the veterans playing more minutes.
“Mas madali kapag kayong mga beterano ang magkakasama. Di kayo gaanong kakapa-kapa,” Caguioa
said.
“In terms of chemistry, tama si Mark. Kaya lang kailangan mo rin gamitin yung mga bata para
ipahinga yung mga beterano,” said Tanquingcen. (SB)
