MANILA, Philippines – Barangay Ginebra takes on Air21 with hopes of gaining a play off spot for No. 2 in the semifinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Gin Kings coach Siot Tanquingcen said the Express are still a dangerous team despite being in the lower rungs of the standings.
"Mahirap kalaban ang Air21, fight ng fight sila at mga bata," said Tanquingcen in PBA.ph.
"Also, kahit napagtatalo sila of late, kahit paano dominant pa rin naman si (Express import) Marcus (Douthit)," he added.
Tanquingcen said they would again need to rely on defense, which has been their key against teams like Talk N’ Text and Barako Bull.
"It is imperative we focus on our defense because that's been the key to our recent wins," he said.
Game time will be at 5:15 pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Added boost
Ginebra also hopes for an added boost from sister company Petron Blaze, which faces defending champion Talk N’ Text in the following game.
Victories by both the Gin Kings and the Boosters will push B-Meg to the No. 1 spot.
This will arrange a play off between Ginebra and Talk N’ Text for the No. 2 seeding.
If the Texters win over the Boosters, the Gin Kings will be forced to face B-Meg for the No. 2 position.
Ginebra lost to B-Meg by 16 points, but won over Talk N’ Text by 3.
"Wala namang mapagpilian," Tanquingcen said. "Any of those teams is really tough. Pero just to have that opportunity, malaking bagay na iyon. Pero di na pinag-iisipan kung sino makaka-play off, iyung pinagpipiliian kung sino. Basta me oportunidad pa rin."
