Barangay Ginebra King Mark "The Spark" Caguioa took home the 2011-12 Most Valuable Player honors in this season's Leo Awards ceremony, held prior to Game Four of the 2012 PBA Governors' Cup Finals, Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Caguioa posted averages of 16.32 points, 4.76 rebounds, 2.27 assists and 0.78 steals in 30.63 minutes of play across 41 games, while shooting 33 percent from beyond the arc and 39.7 percent from the field.
"The Spark" was also named to the 1st Mythical Team, alongside three other MVP candidates, namely Gary David of the Powerade Tigers, Arwind Santos of the Petron Blaze Boosters, and James Yap of the B-MEG Llamados.
Talk 'N Text Tropang Texter Ranidel De Ocampo rounded out the first five.
Meanwhile, the 2nd Mythical Team was comprised of Jayson Castro and Kelly Williams of the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters, Paul Lee and Jeff Chan of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, and Sonny Thoss of the Alaska Aces.
Lee and Chan also got other honors, with Lee, the second overall selection in the 2011 draft, getting the Rookie of the Year plume, and sharpshooter Jeff Chan being named Most Improved Player.
On the other side of the spectrum, the All-Defensive Team was formed by Petron Blaze's Santos, Doug Kramer of the Barako Bull Energy, Lee and Chan's teammate Jireh Ibanes of Rain or Shine, Talk 'N Text Tropang Texter Ryan Reyes, and B-MEG Llamados big man Marc Pingris.
The first overall pick in the 2011 draft, Jayvee Casio, walked home with the Sportsmanship Award. - AMD, GMA News
