CHRIS ALEXANDER: THE TRUTH REVEALED
CHRIS ALEXANDER: THE TRUTH REVEALED
By Eric Dimzon and was posted on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012 at 6:28 am
After helping Ginebra win a championship in 2008, expectations were
high for 7’0” import Chris Alexander to once again lead the Gin Kings
to the finals in the 2012 Commissioner’s Cup. But in a bizarre twist of
fate, Alexander was suddenly released from the most popular PBA team
after playing only 3 games. Alexander then went on to bring his playing
skills to the Philippine Patriots in the ABL. But after a game with the
Patriots, Alexander was reported to have left his team without notice.
In an exclusive interview, the popular import reveals what truly
happened with his stints with Ginebra and the Philippine Patriots.
1. Were you sad and disappointed when Ginebra suddenly dropped you from its roster ?
Yes, I was very hurt and sad when the Ginebra Gin Kings released me.
I waited for years to return to Ginebra. I often found myself dreaming
about the Philippines and coming back. I also waited for years to see
the Ginebra players who have all become my friends. So when I was
released I was really sad. But I was more sad as to how they did it. I
felt I was a player who helped them win a championship when they were
not expected to win at all. At the very least, they could have given me
a little respect.
2. Do you believe that Noli Eala was behind your release?
I do think Noli Eala was behind my departure from the Gin Kings as
he often tweeted nothing but bad stuff about me. But in basketball, I
guess it’s all business. But for some strange reason, it felt as if he
just did not like me.
3. Do you blame your agent for what happened to you ?
I feel that an agent is the link between a team and a player. So I
feel that the agent is the one who makes sure that all is ok. But in my
case, that did not happen. I guess at the end of the day, my agent felt
that she just did what an agent does.
4. Did you abandon the Philippine Patriots in the ABL ?
As for the Philippine Patriots, I did not abandon them. I had a 911
at the house and it is sad that it took place as it did. I am really
confused with the Philippine Patriots because they waited for me to
finally become a part of them. I practiced with them and things were
really going great. I had plans of winning the championship with them.
But I had to attend to a legal and family emergency so I had to leave.
My wife was close to having a miscarriage and I had a court date which
I really had to attend. I talked to my agent the entire night about all
these. For whatever reason, I am viewed as the bad guy here.
5. What condition were you in before coming back to the Philippines ?
I think that over the past year, I have not been having luck at all
when it came to basketball. I sat out for so long starting with the NBA
lockout. Because so many players were taking jobs overseas, there were
not so many opportunities for me abroad. Then I found out that the PBA
adopted an unlimited height for an import in its coming conference. I
figured that would just wait for the PBA and play there. So in all, I
had to pick myself up and get back to my old self.
6. Do you regret coming back to the Philippines to play for Ginebra ?
I do not regret my decision to return to the Philippines to play for Ginebra. I love Ginebra, its fans and players.
7. Do you think that you trusted people so much which hurt you in the end ?
I do feel that I trust people so much and I think that has to change.
8. Do you have anything to say to the Ginebra fans and players ?
I want to say that I get strength and energy from all of them. Right
now, I think it is very important for kind words to keep pouring in
from fans to keep me strong. I have never forgotten our fans and I
never will. I have that never-say-die spirit in me because the players
and fans have shown me what it means to never quit and give up. I pray
that God lights a path for all of us.

Tsk!

Re: CHRIS ALEXANDER: THE TRUTH REVEALED
