Former Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings' import looks good with the Cleveland Cavaliers
Donald Sloan, former Texas A&M star player is now the back-up point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Kyrie Irving after a roller coaster NBA Career .
Sloan, played a memorable stint in the Philippines playing for the Crowd Favorite Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings just before he finally decided to try his luck in the NBA Summer leagues this season.
His solid offense and decision making gave him a change to fulfill his lifetime dream of playing in the NBA, he was signed by the Atlanta Hawks where he averaged 1.2 points and 1 assist per ball game before being waived .Then New Orleans signed the 6-3 guard with a 10 day contract which saw his average to increase with 4 points and 2.7
assist pergame but he was waived after 3 games .
Finally , an opportunity of a lifetime knocks on his door once again this time by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Cavaliers who lost their prolific back up point guard Ramon Session to the Los Angeles Lakers found Donald Sloan as they quest for a bench
point guard to aid Kyrie Irving.
The Cavs sign him for the rest of the current season and might likely be resign again by the next season after a good start for Cavaliers. In a game against the New Jersey Nets, Sloan played for 20 minutes and scored 11 points of the bench without a turnover which delighted their head coach Byron Scott.
"I thought he was great," said coach Byron Scott. "He was poised, ran the offense extremely well. For the first game to play 19 minutes and hit some of the big shots that he hit and have the poise that he had was refreshing. It gives us that much more confidence to put him in situations like that."
Will this be his break-out career?God bless Donald Sloan!
