Helterbrand bares Ginebra's missing piece
MANILA - Being swept in the last Commissioner’s Cup finals is one of the most painful experiences for Jayjay Heltebrand in his PBA career.
The Gin Kings had a roller-coaster ride in the mid-season conference, and expectations ran high for the team when they reached the finals.
But the Alaska Aces well-oiled machinery totally outclassed Ginebra which played injured and worn out.
“Masakit talaga yung sweep. Syempre. It’s tough to lose like that. But we still had agood season said Helterbrand. “We gave our best, but Alaska was just so good.”
The God-fearing sentinel believes that Alaska’s big men played a key factor in the series, which Helterbrand believes should be addressed by Ginebra this off-season.
“I think we really need a legit big man. Somebody we match with Sonny. A guy that is like Sonny. A big guy in the post, a legit center,” the 13-year PBA veteran said.
And with the exposure of their rookies and the renewed performances of the team’s veterans like him, Heltebrand thinks Ginebra will pick up where they left off.
“I think this team has a lot of promises, we have a great line-up, coaching staff and management,” said Helterbrand, who hopes that Ginebra will not start slow like in the just concluded conference.
Saddled by hamstring injuries in the last 4 years, Helterbrand hopes to undergo rigid training to keep himself at the level he’s been in the finals, where he averaged 12 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.
“That’s the thing, I’m gonna make sure na mapapalakas ko yung legs ko, a lot of stretching, strengthening and conditioning,” said the Novaliches, Quezon City native. “And I keep praying to God na mapalakas niya ko lagi.”
Heltebrand also disclosed that they were given two full weeks to rest.
“Magpapalakas muna kami, then next conference we’ll be ready again,” he added.

Yan talaga ang kulang nalang sa ginebra yung legit C.. kung sana mapunta lang si Fajardo saten tapos na ang problema..hehe pero shempre imposibleng mangyari yun...
Palakas ka pa idol, alam ko di pa dyan matatapos career mo. lalo na't nanumbalik na ulet yung kumpyansa mo sa laro.. keep it up idol!

Sana this time kung PAPASOK MAN sila sa trade sana yung kelangan na talaga nila pero sana makatsamba tayo sa dalawang yan sa draft

sana si asi maayos na para makapaglaro sa ginebra... sana isipin ng management kung ano talaga kulang sa kanila, kung ano tumalo sa ginebra sa finals... di ba yung mga bigman...

Simulat sapul ang kulang ng Ginebra ay Bigman eh.. ilang taon na bang hindi napagusapan yan.. ewan ko sa management bakit laging hindi naaddress tong kailangan ng team db?

sana kung mag ttrade man eh yung guard ang ipalit for a bigman like josh..
pero kase hindi ba pwede na mag build na lang ng chemistry yung team tutal meron namang taha at maierhoffer.. hindi ba pwedeng bigyan nila ng bonggang training si taha para maging bonggang center? haha wala lang

Yun tlga ang kulang ng team, big man. Sana makakuha tyo. pero dapat yung can-post-bigman tlga. may mga bigman kasi na wala nun aumaasa lang sa drop pass at offensive rebound. dapat may one-on-one play para he can attract the D at malibre ang ibang teammates
