BARANGAY Ginebra is parading new import Jackson Vroman when it faces Powerade in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
With the Kings asking more from their reinforcement, Vroman was called in to replace Chris Alexander. He will be tested against the Tigers in their 4:15 p.m. encounter. Petron Blaze, meanwhile, shoots for its third-straight win against Rain or Shine in the other game at 6:30 p.m.
Vroman will be playing a little hurt in his debut though as he was accidentally elbowed by Enrico Villanueva in the nose in practice.
“Okay na ang injury niya. He is used to it already and will play tomorrow,” said Ginebra head coach Siot Tanquingcen, who will try to push their record to 3-1 won-lost.
Tanquingcen opts for a versatile import who could heavily score and he believes Vroman, a naturalized player for Lebanon, could do the job.
Vroman will be up against fellow ex-national Basketball Association campaigner Dwayne Jones, who is expected to bounce back after a forgettable offensive game in their 91-101 loss to Barako Bull on Friday, a loss that snapped the Tigers’ two-game winning run.
Jones had 19 points but was 4-of-12 from the field and 11-of-18 from the free throw line against the Energy despite hauling down 12 offensive rebounds for a total of 18 boards.
“It will be another test of character for us. How do we bounce back off a loss?” said Tigers head coach Bo Perasol. “We know the importance of every game in attaining our goal. We just have to battle it out every time,” he added.
The Boosters, on the other hand, shoot for win No. 3 against the Elasto Painters, who are struggling with a 1-3 slate.
After a 0-2 start, Petron won its last two games, the last a 102-88 decision over Air21 with import Nick Fazekas firing 45 points.
