DUBAI — Barangay Ginebra survived a late scare by Rain or Shine to hold on to a 89-88 victory athte the Al Shabab Club to complete the PBA’s Middle East sojourn.

Mark Caguioa had 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Gin Kings, who lucked out on Elasto Painters impot Duke Crews’ woes from the free-throw line to escape with a victory.

Kerby Raymundo scored the last points for Ginebra at the 2:33 mark, which gave the Gin Kings an 89-83 lead.

But Rain or Shine fought back, scoring the next four points quickly. Crews had a golden opportunity to tie the game with 28 seconds remaining.

But the high-flying import was only able to make one of two free throws.

Raymundo missed a jumper in Ginebra’s ensuing possession. Gabe Norwood grabbed the rebound, but his desperation jumper at the buzzer missed the mark.

“It’s an ugly win, but we’ll take it,” said Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen. “At least masaya sa pag-uwi.”

It was Ginebra’s second win in three games, all of which went down the wire. The margin of victory in all of the Gin Kings’ games this conference has been two points or less.

Rain or Shine, which split its two-game series here, lost for the third time in four games.

Jayjay Helterbrand, the hero of Ginebra’s opening game victory over Petron, scored 18 points to backstop Caguioa, while import Chris Alexander had a ho-hum performance with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Crews led all scorers with 28 points, but hit just 12 of 20 shots from the free throw line. Jeffrey Chan had 14 points, Paul Lee scored 13 points and Norwood added 11 for Rain or Shine.
