Kerby, Tenorio lead stars on trading block
By Nelson Beltran (The Philippine Star) Updated January 23, 2012 12:00 AM
MANILA, Philippines - Several trade deals are in the works in the run-up to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, including the possible transfer of Kerby Raymundo from B-Meg to Barangay Ginebra.
Alaska’s LA Tenorio is another marquee name being mentioned on the trading block.
B-Meg top official Rene Pardo has hinted in his Facebook account trade deals happening in the next few days.
“Daming (several) trade on the table. It’s that time of the year again,” said Pardo.
The former league chairman defended the need by teams to use this exercise on certain occasions.
“Trading of players is a vital part of the PBA. Sometimes it seems that a team is on the losing end of trade because not all factors are made aware to the public. The important thing to understand is that no team will agree to a trade that will not benefit its objective of being competitive in the league,” he said.
Reports said Raymundo is moving from B-Meg to Ginebra with Barako Bull used by the SMC sister teams as the third party in the deal. League disallows sister teams from making direct trade transactions.
Raymundo has played the best years of his career with B-Meg after spending his earlier years in the pro league with the original Red Bull team.
The former Letran star, a two-time member of the national team to the Fiba Asia championship, is just back from an injury.
Pardo, however, stressed there’s no final deal yet involving their team.
“Nothing final on our end as of now. Puro what if pa lang,” said Pardo.

Alaska's Tenorio 'shocked' about trade rumor

MANILA, Philippines – Alaska Aces point guard LA Tenorio was shocked to hear rumors that his team was looking to trade him.
"I was surprised when I woke up, there were a lot of texts and
messages on Twitter and Facebook... They said I was on the trading
block and I was really surprised," Tenorio said in an interview with
ANC's Top Story.
According to a report from The Philippine Star on Monday, Tenorio,
along with B-Meg's star Kerby Raymundo, were being mentioned in
potential trades.
Tenorio said he immediately talked to Alaska head coach Joel Banal about the trade rumors.
"Coach Joel immediately talked to me about it and he promised me na
everytime may trade sa team namin, he will be the first person na
magsasabi sa amin," Tenorio said.
"Sinabi n'ya sa amin na walang mangyayaring trade," he added.
Tenorio, a two-time PBA All-Star and a former Finals MVP,
acknowledged that he struggled this past conference as he adjusted to
the new system of Banal, who replaced longtime Alaska mentor Tim Cone
before the start of the season.
"'Yun talaga ang nagti-trigger sa mga issues na 'to, because we have
a new coach, we have a new system, and everyone is telling me that I'm
not suited to the system of Coach Joel," he said.
Tenorio has already been traded once in his career: in 2008, he
moved from the San Miguel Beermen to the Alaska Aces. It was a
transaction that surprised him.
"It's part of our career, part of our work to be traded," he said,
adding that he is not the type of player who will demand a trade.
"When I talked to the management, sinabi ko, hindi ako yung
magsasabi na, 'I don't like to play in Alaska anymore.' You will be the
one to tell me," Tenorio added.
The former Ateneo standout said he will handle the trade rumors in a professional manner.
"I think we just have to be positive about it and not be affected by
what other people are saying," he said. "I'm always ready, and any team
I'll play for I'll give my 110% on the court."
"I'll contribute right away, that's the attitude I have," Tenorio said.
