Ginebra rookie Greg Slaughter says training under Kirk Collier has taught him the value of positioning and lower-body strength. Jerome Ascano
GREG Slaughter is making use of Barangay Ginebra’s break in between conferences to get better as he trains under renowned skills trainer Kirk Collier.
Slaughter said he is taking advantage of the 52-year-old Collier’s brief stay in the country by working out with the American trainer before he flies back to South Korea.
Collier, who used to serve as Red Bull head trainer and later played the same role for San Miguel and Ginebra, is in town for a brief stay.
Slaughter said the sessions with Collier made him realize the importance of positioning and lower-body strength.
“Been training with Kirk for only three days, but been working out with him, mostly hips,” the 6-foot-11 Ginebra rookie big man told Spin.ph in a message on Friday.
“Coach Kirk really knows his stuff, and me, being so tall, just need to be in the right position,” he added.
Joining them in the training sessions at the Green Meadows gym was Ginebra sophomore Chris Ellis.
The former Ateneo stalwart said he started working out early in order to get better for the season-ending Governors Cup, where the Gin Kings will be led by new coach Jeff Cariaso.
Slaughter averaged 12.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals in the Commissioner’s Cup, where Ginebra bowed out after being crushed by Talk ‘N Text, 97-84, in the quarterfinal phase.
The Gin Kings finished with an aggregate record of 3-7 in the mid-season conference.

that's a good sign....Greg is a very young, talented cager at just starting to build up confidence, wisdom, strength underneath, post moves, and bangis. He will be a dominant force once trained rigorously....gogogo GS...
