Caguioa summoned to explain side after incident with Abueva

BARANGAY Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa has been summoned by the PBA Commissioner's Office on Friday to air his side on the incident between him and Alaska sophomore Calvin Abueva during Wednesday's heated PLDT myDSL-Philippine Cup quarterfinal match between the Kings and Aces at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Caguioa landed hard on a fallen Abueva during a mad scramble for the ball early in the first half of the game which the Aces won, 104-97. 

Video replay showed the 6-foot-1 Caguioa was battling for the looseball with the flamboyant Alaska  swingman when Abueva fell underneath the Aces’ basket.

Caguioa lost balance before falling hard on Abueva with both his hands landing on the face of the energetic Alaska forward.

The former San Sebastian Stag star laid on the floor for several minutes as team doctors applied ice on his face and head.

After game officials reviewed the play, Caguioa was slapped with a flagrant foul penalty one.

PBA media bureau chief Willy Marcial said the summon letter has been delivered to Caguioa during Ginebra's practice on Thursday.

The meeting with Commissioner Chito Salud is set at 2:30 p.m., though the summon is waivable.

“Pinapatawag si Mark ni commissioner, pero waivable naman yun,” said Marcial.

The top-seed Gin Kings failed to close out the eighth-seed Aces, forging a do-or-die match between the two teams on Saturday for the right to meet the winner of the San Mig-Talk ‘N Text quarterfinal series in the Final Four.
