GINEBRA superstar Mark Caguioa has warned the Gin Kings will be setting themselves up ror a fall in the playoffs if they play as "relaxed" and as "lazy" as they did in a 90-83 win over Barako Bull on Sunday night.
“Iyun ang nagiging problema namin ngayon, we’re so relaxed," said the former league MVP. "Malakas nga team namin, eh if we’re just being lazy or relaxed sa defense at offense, walang mangyayari sa amin.”
So disappointed was Caguioa that he pointed out that if the playoffs were to begin today, they will struggle to get a win even though the Kings have one of the most impresive lineups in the league this season.
One sticking point for Caguioa was the battle off the boards, which Ginebra and its Twin Towers lost to the shorter Barako Bull side, 53-56.
“Rebounding, that’s our problem, too. I was trying to yell at these guys in practice because we’re not gonna win games lalo na coming into the playoffs,” said the Ginebra star.
“We’re playing a smaller team (Barako Bull). Malaki na nga kami eh talo pa kami sa rebounds.”
Ginebra, now 10-2 (win-loss), only needs to win one of its last two games to secure a top two finish in the elims and a twice-to-beat edge going into the quarterfinals.
But Caguioa, who broke out of a personal slump to score 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting against Barako Bull, said he will keep laying it into his teammates both in practices and in games.
“I’m gonna try and keep working on these guys, always reminding them that we haven’t won a championship yet," said Caguioa. "We can’t relax.”
