MANILA – Though fans tag them as one of the most dreaded teams in the league today, Ginebra superstar Mark Caguioa declared how they are still trying to manage some of their young teammates' confidence.
“I just tell my teammates to play it one game at a time. Mahirap kasi baka maging overconfident kami o masobrahan sa gigil,” said the former league MVP.
Together with sister team Petron Blaze Boosters, Ginebra to date is the only squad without a loss in the month-old Philippine Cup.
“3-0 kami ngayon. Pero siyempre hindi kami sanay sa ganyan. Kaya we want to take it one game at a time. We don’t want to look at our record,” Caguioa said.
“Kasi pag tinignan mo yun. Baka masira pa focus mo,” he added. “We’d rather keep playing harder!”
Asked if he already sees his team as the most formidable in the league, Caguioa only shook his head.
“Hindi. Lumaki lang kami ngayon. Pero we only have 3 wins. That not even 1/4 of what we should achieve in the eliminations,” Caguiao said of Ginebra’s campaign in the double round preliminaries.
Caguioa however takes pride in the Kings’ new found chemistry, amidst the presence of new players like Gregory Slaughter, Jay-r Reyes, Emman Monfort and James Forrester.
“Yes, nakukuha na namin yun. Kaya I am very happy, dahil maganda ang ipinapakita namin kahit hindi pa kami one hundred percent dun (chemistry),” he added.

Ginebra will put their immaculate slate against the Meralco Bolts on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena, before they take on the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters on Sunday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
