MANILA -- As outcry by some Ginebra fans continue to echo in cyberspace, PBA Media Bureau chief Willie Marcial explained the league’s decision to slap superstar Mark Caguioa with a hefty P20,000 fine.

Due to his tweets and comments deemed detrimental to the league, Caguioa was summoned Tuesday morning and fined by Commissioner Chito Salud.

Kaso ipinapatupad lang namin ang batas,” said Marcial, who bared that it is in the by-laws of the league to prohibit players and team officials to issue comments against the league.

Marcial stressed that the fines meted on erring players, coaches and officials will not go to the coffers of the PBA, but instead it will be transmitted to the players’ educational trust fund.

Meanwhile, Marcial was amazed at the initiative of some fans, particularly those from Ginebra, who are willing to chip in money to pay the fine on Caguioa’s behalf.

So, Mark Caguioa was slapped wih a 20K fine after tweeting re: poor officiating. Dear followers, .50 cents each tayo? May sukli pang 5K yon.

“Gagawin nila yun?” said the surprised Marical.

Marcial also bared that even the reigning PBA MVP is apologetic of his misdeed.
