Barangay Ginebra San Miguel got swept by Alaska in the finals of the Commissioner’s Cup, but star point guard LA Tenorio said that the future is bright for the Gin Kings.
“This is a stepping stone for us,” Tenorio told InterAKTV in a telephone interview. “Tingin ko mas maganda ipapakita namin sa susunod dahil sa experience na nakuha naman, particularly sa mga bagong players like Chris Ellis, Yousef Taha, and Elmer Espiritu.”
Tenorio, who was traded by the Aces to the Gin Kings before the season, could only watch his former teammates celebrate as balloons and confetti fell from the rafters on Sunday night.
But Ginebra point guard, who won Best Player of the Conference honors, didn’t sulk, instead showing class amid the loss.
“I went to them and congratulated them. Happy ako sa kanila,” Tenorio said.
For Tenorio, the second-place finish is something they should be proud of, with all the adversities the Gin Kings went through in the tournament.
“Galing kaming 0-4 and then si Mark na-injure pa. Sinong magaakala na makakarating kami ditto sa finals?,” Tenorio said.
“Sa palagay ko malaking achievement na rin para sa amin yung second place.”
