Chua sticks to positives after dream run ends on anti-climactic note
Ang sarap ng feeling kasi, di mo akalain na makakapasok kami sa ganitong championship,” says Barangay Ginebra coach Alfrancis Chua at the end of the Commissioner's Cup title series. Jerome Ascano
THE PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals sweep suffered by Barangay Ginebra may have been a huge letdown to its legion of fans, but coach Alfrancis Chua chose to stick to the positives which he believes will serve the team in good stead in the season-ending Governors Cup.
Chua noted how some of his players found a sudden resurgence in their careers during the Kings’ roller-coaster ride this conference.
“Marami tayong nabuhay na players. Nabuhay si Kerby Raymundo, nabuhay si Rudy Hatfield, though na-injured lang. Si JJ (Helterbrand) nabuhay din. Rob Labagala din,” Chua said as he rattled off the names of the Kings who really stepped up and helped the franchise achieve its best finish in the last two seasons.
“So marami tayong napasikat na players sa series na ito,” beamed the coach known for his pony-tailed hair.
He added, “That’s why I’m so happy. Ang sarap ng feeling kasi, di mo akalain na makakapasok kami sa ganitong championship.”
Too bad, the ending didn’t favor the league’s most popular team as Alaska completed a three-game sweep of the title series after a 104-80 Game Three win on Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Chua, named Ginebra coach at the start of the year in place of Siot Tanquigncen, said he never ceased motivating his players during the course of the deciding game even though some of them were all banged up and already showing signs of fatigue.
“Itong series na ito, dami ng hirap na dinanas ng team na ito. Si LA (Tenorio) bumigay pa. Si Vernon (Macklin), halos di na makalakad,” noted Chua. “My plan was papa-ikutin ko talaga and lineup, kaya kapag kinakausap ko sila, binabagsak ko pa ang board para magising sila.”
Chua also paid tribute to the 6-foot-10 Macklin who played through a bruised right thigh which he had endured since the semifinal series against Talk ‘N Text.
Macklin finished Game Three with just 12 points and 14 rebounds as he struggled against the defensive effort of Alaska big man Sonny Thoss.
But despite the disappointing loss, Chua didn’t fail to mention how grateful he is to the legion of Ginebra fans who came to support the team in its quest to end a five-year title drought..
“Unang-una, gusto kong pasalamatan ang mga fans,” said Chua after his long talk with his team inside the Ginebra dugout. “Imagine, we got 23,000 or 24,000 fans who showed up. First, I’m so proud of my team and my players. It was a wonderful ride kahit na sobrang pagod na rin sila (Kings).”

Admit it or not, Ginebra overachieved this conference despite all the injuries and problems they had. Head up high and still, NEVER SAY DIE.

me, too, am a proud ginebra fan.....medyo bumigay lang talaga ang mga katawan sa hirap na pinagdaanan...being swept is not an embarassment but a motivation to do more...nawa ang makuha nating import ay scorer para concentrate ang big men sa rebound and defense...

Re: Chua sticks to positives after dream run ends on anti-climactic note

Re: Chua sticks to positives after dream run ends on anti-climactic note
we don't need him to score... we need his rebounds and inside presence... at sana may low post...
we have a lot scorers, kung PF position nya, that's good... para hindi magulo ang rotation natin sa 1-3rd position....

oo nga, a defensive player cum low post scorer, para maopen ang outside shooters natin...there are three names being considered for our import - Dior Lowhorn, Mike Harris and another one I forgot the name....sana ma-evaluate at ma-assess mabuti kung sino talaga bagay sa atin...or, make each one available para kung lemon ang unang makuha, may kapalit agad....

THE Meralco Bolts are not yet keen on giving big man Asi Taulava his release papers yet.
A source within the team disclosed that Taulava, who left the Bolts to sign up with the San Miguel Beermen in the ABL, has long been trying to get a release order from the franchise to clear the way for his return and play in the PBA again.
But as per the current Uniform Players Contract (UPC), Taulava will be barred from playing for another team in the league unless the Bolts give him the green light.
“If they (Taulava camp) can work out something which is favorable to the Meralco franchise, puwedeng pag-usapan,” the source said.
“Pero hinihingi nila release, syempre we want to work out something.”
PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial also underscored the rights of Meralco on Taulava as per the UPC agreement.
“Hangga’t hindi siya nire-release ng Meralco, hindi siya pwede maglaro sa ibang PBA teams,” said Marcial.
Spin.ph also learned the two-year sit-out rule will not be applicable to the 6-foot-9 Taulava as he was reportedly offered a maximum contract extension by the Bolts, which he refused to sign.
When he turned 40 last March, Taulava was vocal enough to say his birthday wish is to play for the team he calls ‘favorite back in his amateur days.’
“That’s my ultimate dream (to play for Ginebra) and finish off my career with the team,” the 13-time former league MVP said in an interview with Spin.ph.
