LA Tenorio looked like a demon unleashed for the Barangay Ginebra Kings as he obliterated Talk N Text’s finals’ hopes basket after basket. Meanwhile, Calvin Abueva lived up to his “savior” shtick as the Alaska Aces have been brought back to the big dance… thanks to his exploits.

There are a couple of players that could warrant votes like the Tropa’s Jayson Castro and someone from the San Mig Coffee Mixers that is not named James Yap but fact is the former Alaska Ace and the current Alaska Ace will likely battle each other for the conference’s ultimate prize.

There are five names I see fit on my Top 5 and surprisingly, you can already boot out the San Mig Coffee duo of Marc Pingris and Mark Barroca from the process. I bet you’re not surprise with the Pingris mention but Barroks? The physical and mental injuries to James Yap made The Coffee Prince double his efforts. Sure his scoring isn’t that up par as to what Yap and Peter June Simon are doing but this is the confy that Barroca has taken over the point guard spot. Meanwhile Pingris is his usual self… despite not defending the crown they got with Denzel Bowles leading them. The guy is a strong rebounder but he’s also a pretty underrated passer and he gets enough stats to fill up his steals and blocks.

The thing about Calvin Abueva is he is playing in a team where even the benchwarmers can explode. The core of Alaska’s starting unit has Abueva, Cyrus Baguio, JV Casio, Sonny Thoss, and import Robert Dozier while Dondon Hontiveros, RJ Jazul, Gabby Espinas, and Tony dela Cruz are also dangerous players coming off the bench. It’s amazing how Luigi Trillo enabled the Alaska management to get this mix of youth and experience. This should win them the championship – as well as a possible Best Import Award for Dozier – but this could also be the problem The Beast has to face.

LA Tenorio is my choice for the Best Player of the Conference. Sure Ginebra now has dug deep and we are seeing the re-ascension of the scoring superbness of Jayjay Helterbrand and Kerby Raymundo as well as the deeds of Mac Baracael, Chris Ellis, and of course powerhouse import Vernon Macklin… but the Kings wouldn’t have survived the eliminations without their Tenyente taking over. Let’s remember that Tenorio doubled his exploits by playing his game and subbing for the injured Mark Caguioa. The Spark, who returned to action in the semifinal clincher, is the league’s leading local scorer at 22ppg. With no clear offensive frontliner other than Macklin, Tenorio was their big time support. When everything else was unfolding on Alfrancis Chua’s debut conference he was the one who took over the reins. Castro should have done the same for Talk N Text especially with most of their players in sickbay but his semifinal case was a disaster because Jerome Jordan is outplayed by Macklin and Tony Mitchell loves every shot he unearths. It just sucks how the injuries and bad reinforcements plagued Castro’s individual achievements. If he annexes his second straight BPC award, it’s almost certain that he’ll will Season MVP honors.

And if you saw Tenorio’s finals-clinching performance, you know that the feat is a statement game to warrant your attention. 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in 36 minutes with the series on the line is only accomplished by those who have the goods to succeed (even if his three-point shooting isn’t that impressive now).

So yeah, it’s going to be a brawl that pits Tenorio, Abueva, and Castro for this conference’s BPC with Tenorio hands down winning it.
