Elbow surgery can wait for motivated Tenorio
SURGERY for a the hurting elbow injury will have to wait for LA Tenorio, especially now with Barangay Ginebra just a win away from making the Finals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Tenorio, Ginebra's prized acquisition at the start of the season, is aware he’s been under the microscope starting the playoffs due in part to his poor shooting percentage.
And in as much as he doesn’t want to make it an excuse, the recurring elbow injury of the veteran point guard has obviously been a big factor in the sudden dip in his scoring.
“Masakit pa talaga,” Tenorio told Spin.ph.
The pain, according to him, recurred after being hit during the Kings’ quarterfinal showdown against Rain or Shine.
“Hindi ako talaga umiinom ng pain reliever, pero kung kailangan, wala eh, no choice. Para lang makalaro ako at makatulong sa team,” he added.
Tenorio bared renowned sports physician Dr. George Canlas has given him the option to have the elbow operated on in order to deal with the issue once and for all.
But with Ginebra in the midst of a championship run, Tenorio just opted to keep playing in the hope of helping the league’s most popular league reach the Finals for the first time in two years.
“Kahit masakit kailangan ko lang ilaro. Di lang naman ako sa scoring makaka-contribute, kundi pati sa depensa,” he said.
Tenorio is averaging 10.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists in the first four games of the Kings’ semifinal series against Talk ‘N Text.
His field goal shooting percentage of 30.8 percent in the conference is the lowest in his career, thus far.
