Fil-Australian girlfriend tries best to keep Caguioa's spirits up during injury layoff

DIGOS CITY - Mark Caguioa’s No. 1 fan, his girlfriend Lauren Hudson, also happens to be his top booster in what has been a trying six weeks for the Barangay Ginebra superstar.

Hudson has been doing her best to keep Caguioa's spirits up as the reigning PBA MVP attempts to rush his comeback from an MCL sprain, hopefully in time to rejoin Ginebra in the Commissioner's Cup playoffs.

“It’s hard because I want to tell him (Caguioa) to keep positive,” said Hudson, who joined his boyfriend in the trip to this southern city for the match between Gilas Pilipinas and the PBA All-Stars.

“He keeps saying it might take him a long time. But of course, I want to tell him, ‘Don’t push yourself and just feel your body,’ though he listens to (orthopedic surgeon) Dr. (Raul) Canlas,” she added.

If her words of assurance are not enough, the Fil-Australian model tries to cheer up her boyfriend of nine years with her cooking.

“Yeah, I cook, but that’s the problem because I like Australian food, and he likes Filipino (dish). He likes tinola so I cook for him, but he also cooks adobo,” said the 30-year-old Hudson, who grew up in Perth, Australia.

Caguioa has been sidelined by his injury since March 22, but signs are encouraging that a comeback is very near when the high-scoring guard played briefly in the All-Star game on Sunday.

The Ginebra star decided at the last minute to join the festivities, playing for three minutes and running up and down the floor with no pain.
