THIS IS WHAT GINEBRA LIVES FOR, SAYS CAGUIOA
MANILA - Reduced as the team's number one cheerleader for the time being, injured superstar guard Mark Caguioa watched in awe last night as his team pulled a 81-79 stunner over the Rain or Shine ElastoPainters at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.
"This is what Ginebra lives for," a beaming Caguioa said in his one-on-one interview with Solar Sports Desk. "I feel it, I hear it. I've been here for almost 13 years. What I see from this team right now...everyone's playing together."
The lower-seeded squad was able to beat second-ranked Rain or Shine in the quarterfinals to advance to the semis, where they will be matched-up against the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters.
Caguioa, the reigning PBA Most Valuable Player, has been out of the playing court for one month now as he continues to rehabilitate his injured left knee. He was diagnosed with an MCL injury, which he incurred during Ginebra's 84-81 win over the Meralco Bolts last March 22.
In a revelation he made to Solar Sports Desk, Caguioa said that he has also been battling migraine for the past couple of days.
"You know what...the last two games up to this morning, I had migraine. I had to take Atenolol. I think I got an eye strain and just getting headaches. Too much migraine because of too much cheering," a laughing Caguioa stated.
"Now I understand the fans why they get mad -- because you are cheering the whole game and then matatalo lang," Caguioa offered. "But this time we won. It's really a big win for us."
Ginebra banked on the endgame heroics of Vernon Macklin to advance to the semifinal round of PBA's mid-season conference. The reinforcement, who has been plagued with free throw woes all conference long, calmly sank two pressured-pack free throws with 11.1 left in the game that settled the game's final outcome.
"I just went to the line. I wanted to be confident. I saw my teammates and my coaching staff had confidence in me, so I went out there and made those big free throws for my team," recalled Macklin on his trip from the line.
"I told everyone to hold each other. I know the percentage is not good when he's shooting the free throws - but we believed in each other. I know he was going to make those two free throws and he made two of them," said Caguioa.
Asked if he will play for Ginebra in the semifinal round against Talk 'N Text, Caguioa said: "I am still day-to-day. Hopefully, I will be in there."

Kung wala si MC para sa semis tiyak mahihirapan tayong talunin sila at dito dapat mag step up ng husto ang mga bench players naten pero sana talga makalaro sha para mas malaki chance naten na manalo sa series na to
