Mark Caguioa: ‘Dahil sa support ng crowd, nawawala yung pagod ko’

Because Mark Caguioa has been doing a yeoman’s job for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel this conference, one would think that fatigue would set in for the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player.

But the Gin Kings superstar finds himself energized while playing in front of a rabid crowd full of Barangay faithful.

“Dahil sa support ng crowd, nawawala yung pagod ko,” Caguioa told InterAKTV.

“This is what I want. You don’t play there para tambakan lang kami. We’re here to play hard and win a game for them.”

Before 16,082 raucous fans at the Big Dome, Caguioa dropped 28 points, four rebounds, and five assists to lead Ginebra to victory over Talk ‘N Text Sunday night. It was a fitting followup to his performance in last Sunday’s Manila Clasico encounter against San Mig Coffee, where he posted 25 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.

He has no intentions of slowing down.

“I believe that if you’re the reigning MVP, kailangan yung laro mo hindi bumababa. That’s what I’m trying to do now. I spent the offseason staying in shape,” he added.

The win, Ginebra’s third in the last four games, allowed the Gin Kings to gain a bit of ground, but Caguioa knows there’s much work to be done.

“The good thing is we were able to beat strong teams. Now, we need to beat teams at the lower half of the standings,” he said.
