MACKLIN IMPRESSIVE, 'NO MORE EXCUSES' FOR GINEBRA SAYS CAGUIOA



MANILA - Barangay Ginebra San Miguel superstar Mark Caguioa believes that new import Vernon Macklin is exactly what the doctor has ordered for the team.

Speaking to Solar Sports Desk, the outspoken Ginebra guard declared that compared to their previous reinforcement, Macklin is more intense and physical.

“Ang pinagka-iba ni Vernon, mas athletic siya. Kasi sa rebound hinahabol niya talaga yung bola. Yun ang kailangan namin. Talagang monster sa boards, para makatakbo kami,” said Caguioa, who dreams of having an energy import like Petron’s Renaldo Balkman.

“Si Balkman, siya mag di dribble, ipu-push ka niya... Talagang hahanapin ka niya. Yun ang kailangan namin, mukhang si Vernon ganun,” Caguioa added while comparing Macklin to old import, Herbert Hill, who is taking his flight back to the US on Tuesday night.

“Dati kasi hindi kami makatakbo, hindi kami maka-rebound. Yung rebound namin maski makuha namin, hindi agad naibababa (ni Hill).”

Asked if Hill is the only one to blame for Ginebra’s woeful 0-3 start, Caguioa pointed out at the inconsistencies of the locals.

“Merong malaking part din (sa mga talo) kaming mga locals. Kailangan kasi maging consistent kami... mahirap i-asa lahat sa import,” stressed the charismatic team leader. “We need to be consistent every night”.

With their import showing good hustle and aggressiveness in their first practice together, the 34-year-old Caguioa believes that brighter days are now ahead of the crowd favorite squad.

“We’ve been here (bottom on standings) before, hindi na bago sa amin ito. As long as hindi nawawala yung kumpiyansa namin. We can bounce back,” he added.

At the same time, the reigning the league MVP has one big request to the most important people in the team.

“As long as the fans are with us, praying for us... We know we can beat every challenge that will come our way. We can rise up, altogether,” Caguioa told Solar Sports Desk while addressing the team's millions of supporters.

“And for us players, wala nang excuse ngayon. Nagpalit na ng import. Wala nang excuse ngayon. We now have to work. (The) Import has his job, we the locals should also do our job. Locals na ang dapat mag-angat sa import.”
