MANILA - The next eight hours will be crucial in Barangay Ginebra San Miguel’s bid to bring in two-time NBA champion center DJ Mbenga.

Popular import agent Sheryl Reyes told Solar Sports Desk that she is now in constant communication with the manager of the former Los Angeles Laker.

“OK na yung agent niya sa Ginebra, DJ must now sign the offer sheet,” said Reyes, who revealed that a plane ticket for Mbenga has already been readied by the Ginebra management.

A source from Ginebra camp also told Solar Sports Desk how the team is eager to get a quick replacement for Herbert Hill, who was the subject of criticism from fans for his lackluster performance last Sunday.

“Talagang nahihilo na si Coach Alfrancis kakahanap ng bagong import,” said our source. “Parang napahiya talaga siya sa pinakita nung Hill. Malata.”

The 28-year old Hill was an import originally handpicked by Chua’s predecessor, Siot Tanquincen.

The past two days was a real test of patience for Ginebra coaching staff, which burned the lines to get a quality reinforcement in time for their Friday’s game against the Global Port Batang Pier.

A negotiation with former German national cager Tim Ohlbrecht bogged down after the 24 year old sweet-shooting big man opted to stay with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA D-League.

“Talagang binabantayan ni Ohlbrecht yung kanyang NBA dream. Gusto nun sundan ang yapak nung kababayan niyang si Dirk Nowitzki,” bared the Ginebra insider of Olhbrecht, who was snubbed in the 2010 NBA draft.

Last week, the Philippines’ most popular ballclub also was snubbed by Jeremy Jordan, who incidentally was offered a 10-day contract by the same team that Mbenga will bolt out.

Other imports that were in the Ginebra list are Ike Diogu, Brian Butch, Vernon Macklin, Shavlik Randolph and former Talk n’ Text reinforcement Donnell Harvey.
