Tenorio cleared to go for Ginebra's season debut
AFTER watching Air21 guard John Wilson's last-gasp three-pointer from the corner waived off by the referees at the end of a tune-up match against Ginebra, LA Tenorio knew it was time to shift his attention back to the PBA.
Ginebra's prized acquisition watched the Kings' close 89-88 win over Air21 from the sidelines at the Xavier gym in San Juan due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Smart Gilas' final game in the Fiba Asia Cup, but he can't wait to join his new teammates on the floor.
Fortunately, he'll be healthy enough to do so soon.
According to the 5-8 guard, doctors had asked him to rest the injured hamstring for a few days, meaning Tenorio will be good to rejoin the Gin Kings' practice on Thursday and will definitely make his Ginebra debut in Sunday's season-opening game against newcomer Global Port.
That also means Tenorio must shake off his hangover from the past month he spent with Gilas, which saw him play the hero's role in the Jones Cup championship run and limp off the floor early against Qatar in the battle for third place in the Fiba Asia Cup.
As he looked back, the 5-8 guard said the quality of the opposition he and his national teammates faced in Tokyo was a lot higher compared to the teams they faced in the Jones Cup.
"Mas matitindi talaga ang kalaban namin sa Fiba Asia Cup kaysa sa Jones Cup," Tenorio told Spin.ph.
On the loss to Iran in the semifinals, he said: "Halos lahat ng galaw namin, pakiramdam ko pinaghandaan ng Iran. May mga naging players sila na di namin nakalaban sa Jones Cup pero naglaro sa Asia Cup. Maganda din talaga ang depensa nila sa amin kaya nahirapan na kami."
