BETTER prepare to run too if you want to keep abreast with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the coming 38th Season of the PBA.
It’s because the Gin Kings promised they will bank on their run-and-gun brand of play in their bid to end what has been an alarming nosedive since 2008 season.
And owing to the presence of four able, fleet-footed guards in the team who could deliver the goods on any given day, the Gin Kings should be considered one of the fastest in the ten-team fold.
Ask the coaching staff.
“Fast and furious,” said Gin Kings head coach Siot Tanquingcen yesterday at the Gateway Suites at the Araneta Center.
“Kung noon ay dalawa lang hinahabol nila, ngayon halos lahat ay hahabulin na nila,” came Alfrancis Chua, one of Tanquincen’s assistants who joined the rest of the team in yesterday’s unveiling of the team’s new jersey design.
It used to be only Mark Caguioa and Jayjay Helterbrand — and lately Mike Cortez — who alternated in providing the needed leadership for the Gin Kings who have been winless in over three seasons already.
With the acquisition of L.A. Tenorio in recent trades, the Gin Kings are expected to become faster than before, with the former Alaska aces take-charge guy to also add depth to the team’s line-up despite being relatively small.
“We have to admit that we lack big men, but we don’t see that a problem,” said Tanquicen. “We’re looking forward to an exciting season.”
Save for Tenorio who is in Tokyo, Japan with the Smart Gilas team campaigning in the 4th Fiba Asia Cup, all the players joined the team officials to unveil the team’s new jersey design for the 38th Season.
Also present were GSMI marketing manager Nelson Elises, and assistant coaches Allan Caidic, Art dela Cruz, Juno Sauler and Freddie Abuda.
