GINEBRA is still in on the Jayvee Casio trade but if things don’t work out, coach Siot Tanquingcen will be happy with the next best playmaker he could have.
Reports of an impending multiple-team trade chiefly involving Casio and fellow point guard LA Tenorio of Alaska kept swirling yesterday, although sources told Malaya Business Insight their ultimate destinations remain to be seen.
Petron Blaze, San Mig Coffee (formerly B-Meg) and Meralco are also reportedly in on the trades involving other players, as well as Alaska and future draft picks.
PBA Media Bureau chief Willie Marcial emphatically said no trade papers or word of any trade involving Casio and Tenorio have reached Commissioner Chito Salud as of press time yesterday.
“Papel wala, ni pasabi wala,” stated Marcial.
No official among the teams involved made themselves scarce yesterday, but a source close to Casio said papers of the supposed trade, the topic of numerous posts in social networking sites, were supposed to reach Salud’s office later yesterday.
Another insider said Casio would be good for Ginebra, but Tenorio would suit the team just as well.
Tanquingcen has said Casio tops his wish-list of point guards, with Tenorio a very close second.
The tactician may realize that dream if either of the two lands at the Kings, as the sources claim.
Tenorio, a vital cog in Smart-Gilas’s Jones Cup title run who emerged as the tourney’s MVP, was apparently unaware of any such deal, participating in the Aces’ twice-daily practices as of yesterday.
“Nasa Alaska pa ako,” Tenorio was quoted as saying. “I don’t know anything about a trade. As far as I know, I remain committed playing both for Alaska and the national team.”
Ginebra has been dangling two players to Global Port for Casio, with the latest offer involving Mike Cortez and center Enrico Villanueva. But the Batang Pier managament apparently more for the heady playmaker inherited from Powerade.

:gaah:
