WILL MARK CAGUIOA FINALLY BE AN MVP?
WILL MARK CAGUIOA FINALLY BE AN MVP?
The MVP award has eluded Mark Caguioa for the last 12 years. Acknowledged as the heart and soul of Ginebra Gin Kings, Caguioa has won Rookie of the Year and Best Player of the Conference awards. But the most popular cager in the PBA today has never won an MVP.
This season, Caguioa is fifth in statistical points behind Gary David, Arwind Santos, James Yap and Jason Castro to give the Ginebra sensation a fair chance of getting the most prestigious individual award in the PBA. But the question remains. Will Caguioa finally win the 2012 PBA MVP award?
I personally believe that Caguioa will have a hard time winning this season’s MVP. For one, Ginebra failed to win a single crown in the 3 conferences. His statistical points are a far fifth from Gary David’s. David is the sentimental favorite as he single-handedly carried Powerade to the finals of the All-Filipino conference. James Yap, by virtue of of a championship crown and a finals appearance in the Governor’s Cup for BMEG, has a big chance of bagging his third MVP. Yap likewise remains a favorite among the PBA Press Corps and Commissioner’s office which account for 35% of the votes for the MVP award. Yap’s two previous MVP awards, wherein he was not all leading in the statistical race, are enough proof of his popularity with the PBA sports writers and Commissioner’s office. Of course, the respective agents of the players play an important role too in convincing players, sports writers and people in the PBA to vote for their respective wards.
I really feel for Caguioa as all indications point to the fact that the MVP award will not be his for the umpteenth time. Perhaps, Caguioa will just remain MVP in the hearts of millions of fans of the PBA. Perhaps, Caguioa will be the People’s MVP regardless of statistical points and votes cast.

kahit nakapasok sila JIMS sa FINALS pero di sha ang dahilan kung bakit sila nasa finals kaya dapat hindi sa kanya mapunta yan, walang BPC tas magiging MVP? lokohan yan!
