Barangay Ginebra hopes to sustain its winning run in the semifinals as it collides with league-leader Rain or Shine in the lone game in the PBA Governors’ Cup Thursday at the SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

The Kings, still unbeaten after two games in the semis, battle the Elasto Painters at 8 p.m. in a crucial encounter for both teams.

Rain or Shine still leads the team standings with 9-2 win-loss mark and could be a win away of securing the first finals slot.

Ginebra, on the other hand, is holding a 7-4 slate and is 2-0 in the semis. A win would push the Kings nearer to the four-of-five incentive.

“We just have to stay focused defensively against Rain or Shine team because they are playing with a lot of confidence,” said Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen.

The Kings are coming off a scintillating 87-85 victory over defending champion Petron Blaze last Sunday to cap the retirement ceremony of Robert Jaworski’s No. 7 jersey.

Tanquingcen hopes that they can carry the momentum when they face the Elasto Painters.

Rain or Shine is also coming off an emotional 99-86 win over the ousted Meralco squad where coach Yeng Guiao was ejected in the first half.

Minus Guiao, his assistants were able to restore order to the team’s plays behind import Jamelle Cornley and rookie Paul Lee.

The temperamental mentor said their focus now is to continue winning to cement the franchise’s first-ever finals seat.

“We’ve been able to put things together hoping we can sustain the momentum and confidence that we have gained so far,” said Guiao.
