Powerade and Barangay Ginebra both try to jack up their stocks in the upper half of the team
standings as they square off in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Friday.
The Tigers are riding the crest of a three-game streak while the Kings are revved up by a win over
the formidable Petron Blaze team Sunday as they clash in their exciting tiff at 7:30 p.m.
They are tied with the Barako Bull Energy at third place with identical 3-2 win-loss slates going to
the match. B-Meg now sets the pace at 5-1, followed by Rain or Shine at 4-1.
“If we do what are being asked of us, we can be in a position to grab a win and improve out
standing,” said Powerade coach Bo Perasol.
Admitting it’s always to tough to compete with Ginebra, Perasol said they have to be physically
and mentally ready for the battle.
Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen, meanwhile, acknowledges the Tigers’ scoring prowess, saying they
have to come out with a defensive mindset.
“Powerade can score in so many ways. We need to limit their good looks at the basket and make sure
we take care of the ball on the offensive end,” said Tanquingcen.
The Tigers have never dropped a game since the arrival of import replacement Omar Sneed, stringing
up three straight wins versus the Alaska Milk Aces, the Talk n Text Tropang Texters and the RoS
Elasto Painters.
Gary David poured in 30 points – his 19th straight game with at least 20 – and the Tigers roared
on with a 104-98 win over the erstwhile unbeaten Elasto Painters Friday.

“Our motivation was great. We wanted to be the first to beat the unbeaten team,” said Perasol
after that game.
Mark Caguioa, meanwhile, fueled a key run by Ginebra coming off the bench in the last six minutes as
the Kings topped the Boosters, 83-80, two nights later.
On a win-loss-win-loss run, Ginebra will again be out to notch its first successive victories.
“(The tourney’s) down the stretch and we have to make a run. I’m hopeful as I believe we’re
getting there. The new guys are getting their game going,” said Tanquingcen.
Tapped in to start at wing spots versus Petron, rookies Dylan Ababou and Allein Maliksi produced
some numbers with the former delivering six points, nine rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one
steal and the latter adding five markers.
Cedric Bozeman played the point early on and he wound up with 16 points, 11 rebounds and four
assists against five errors.
Caguioa easily stood out, though, leading all scorers in the low-scoring game with his 6-of-13 field
shooting and 4-of-6 free throws. And he struck hard when needed the most.
Caguioa and David are tipped to figure in an exciting match-up and so do Bozeman and Sneed. (SB)
