BOOSTERS, KINGS FIGHT TO BOUNCE BACK
Published on June 9, 2012
Petron Blaze and Barangay Ginebra both try to recover from a loss the last time out as they fight to
keep their spots in the Top Six in the PBA Governors Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Sunday.
“It’s going to be interesting. Both of us are raring to bounce back after the last game.
Execution will be the key especially towards the end. That would make the difference,” said
Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen.
Game time is at 6:30 p.m.
The Boosters blew a chance to gain a share of league leadership Friday when they squandered a
14-point third-quarter lead and lost a close game to the Barako Bull Energy, 111-107.
On Wednesday, the Kings also dropped a close match with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 93-90,
and were stalled at 2-2.
Both teams need to get back on track right away with the teams trailing them not far behind.
At 3-2, Petron still needs some push for a guaranteed spot in the semifinal round.
Ginebra is in a more delicate situation at 2-2.
Both ache to get going and be in the Top Six at the end of the short single-round-robin elimination
phase. Only six teams advance to the semifinals.
“We need to be consistent,” said Petron coach Ato Agustin.
Without a rest from his long flight from the US, returning Barako Bull import Leroy Hickerson dealt
Petron much damage.
Hickerson marked his return in the local pro league with 32 points, eight rebounds and seven
assists, and the Energy caught up with the Kings at joint fifth place at 2-2.
The Kings had their own chance to gain a share of league leadership but blew it in their three-point
loss to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
Paul Lee gave RoS the go-ahead basket with 2.6 seconds to go. Ginebra import Cedric Bozeman missed a
game-tying three-point attempt at the buzzer (SB)
