Four-time slam dunk champion KG Canaleta of Barangay Ginebra goes for a double title Friday at the Centennial Arena in Laoag, Ilocos Norte as he attempts to win both the Slam Dunk contest and the Three-Point Shootout Friday in the 2012 PBA All-Star Weekend.
Canaleta is the favorite to win the dunkfest after the pullout of Talk ‘N Text high-flyers Japeth Aguilar and Kelly Williams, who failed to show up for the weekend’s events.
But Canaleta is expected to encounter stiff opposition from the field that includes B-MEG’s JC Intal, Rain or Shine’s Gabe Norwood, and Air 21′s Elmer Espiritu, all of whom were slam dunk champions in the amateur ranks.
Meralco’s Mark Macapagal, meanwhile, seeks to defend his Three-Point title against an elite list of the league’s best shooters. Leading the charge are superstars Gary David of Powerade, Willie Miller of Barako Bull, and James Yap of B-MEG, along with Canaleta, Jeff Chan (Rain or Shine), Marcio Lassiter (Petron), Renren Ritualo (Air 21), and Cyrus Baguio (Alaska).
Meanwhile, former champion Jonas Villanueva (B-MEG) leads the participants in the Obstacle Challenge event. Miller, JVee Casio (Powerade), Paul Lee (Rain or Shine), Chris Ross (Meralco), Alex Cabagnot (Petron), LA Tenorio (Alaska), Jojo Duncil (Air 21) and Rob Labagala (Ginebra) complete the cast.
